The Higher Objectives of Shari’ah (Maqasid al-Shari’ah)
Islamic scholars have long emphasized that the purpose of Shari’ah revolves around five fundamental objectives:
- Preservation of Life
- Preservation of Faith (Religion)
- Preservation of Intellect
- Preservation of Lineage and Family
- Preservation of Wealth (Property)
Each of these goals reflects a broader divine intention: to honor, protect, and uplift the human being as a steward (khalifah) of Allah on earth.
